Chris is a full time artist based in Carbis Bay, St Ives, Cornwall.
Style
I mainly work with oil paint on board or canvas, using the ‘alla prima’ (wet on wet) method, where work is (hopefully!) finished in one go. Often using a light impasto, ‘painterly’ style, and tools other than brushes to bring a dynamism to the finished work.
All paintings are made with top quality oil paints on archival board or canvas and will be
delivered framed and ready to hang.
Inspiration
"My work is informed by long walks viewing the hills, cliffs and beaches of West Penwith, where inspiration is gathered to return to the studio. Much is recorded about the light in Cornwall, particularly in St Ives and on the North Atlantic facing coasts, where Mediterranean colours are reflected in the ever-changing seascape.
I am equally pleased by different weather patterns, cloud formations, rain, wind, (occasional snow) and the reflections and colours these make on the landscape and sea.
West Penwith enjoys the best sunsets in the UK, given the geographical
advantage of being on the edge!
Inspiration is also drawn from the industrial heritage of Cornwall, including the fishing and mining industries, and the agricultural landscape inland, particularly the prehistoric field patterns of West Penwith from St Ives to Lands End".
